During the recent years, the Northern part of Nicaragua and especially the department of Nueva Segovia has evolved in a major tourism attraction. The possibilities for walking, cycling and horse riding in the area to enjoy the various eco-systems and corresponding wildlife and plants has attracted many visitors from all over the world.

Throughout the department you will find small rural communities whose inhabitants are enchanted to receive you with their traditional country-side hospitality. Nature is abundant and highly varied ranging from pine forests till mountain cloud forests. All spiced up with numerous rivers, waterfalls and hot water springs.

This development has been made possible also because of the improvements in infrastructure realized during the last years: The main road from Ocotal (Pan-American Highway) till Jalapa and further on to the Honduras border in Teotecacinte, is recently paved; The new glass fibre telephone line which allows high velocity access to Internet; And, last but not least, the growth of the Mobile Telephone system which makes that you might see, even in the most remote areas, farmers with their cellular phone placed on their belt.

Very important to mention is also that Nicaragua is the safest country in Central America and, within Nicaragua, Nueva Segovia is the safest province.

All of these factors has resulted in the growing number of tourists who decide to spent their holidays in this area.
